Which is better tire: Michelin HydroEdge or Goodyear Assurance TripleTred? |
| A:(from Mark F) | |
|
I have not been impressed with the Hydroedge in snow. The first set I ever installed I took out for a investigation drive (Honda minivan) because there was about an inch of snow on the ground that morning so it was a heinous chance to try them out. The Michelin's were sliding everywhere and the Traction Control and ABS kept kicking in. I get to get-up-and-go just about every kind of tire there is and I must say I was underwhelmed by the Michelin, expecially considering how much they get. A phenominal rain tire, wears like iron shoes and like all Michelin's it is glib and quiet riding - I just don't like them for winter. The Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread on the other bracelets has a great reputation for winter performance when new and I've been fairly impressed with this annoy overall. Definately the best product Goodyear has come out with in years.

GoodYear Assurance TripleTred? |

I own a Saab 9-5 with Assurance TripleTreds that were equipped when I purchasing the car. I have 7/32 of tread depth and feel these are a very good general purpose tire out. They have excellent hydroplaning resistance. Competent light snow (4 inches and less) and compacted snow gripping power basically meaning if you don't get overzealous you won't leave the road or fishtail. I have not tested these tires in absorbed snow (6+ inches) and have not encountered icy condition so I cannot speak to that end. If snow and icy conditions are a solicitude (ie: you'll see more than about 15 days of these conditions) I would urge you to consider something like the Bridgestone Blizzak ws60, Goodyear UltraGrip Ice, or almost identical studless ice and snow tires. If you must have an "all season" tire I have seen several tests that put the Goodyear Eagle F1 All seasons way beyond any all flavour tire for snow, slush, and ice performance. These tires have very good dry and wet wear idiosyncratic, and near studless ice and snow performance. The best of all worlds but I doubt it is made in your estimate.

Are the Goodyear Assurance Tripletred good for Vancouver Winters? Snow, compact snow, Slush ice, etc? |
| A:(from Ricart Auto) | |
|
I haven't been satisfied with the performance of Goodyear. I only drive on Blizzaks, by Bridgestone. They are great! With the same winter mix you mentioned here, never wily what the road conditions will be, I always have the confidence to drive without fear of sliding or accidents.
